KAMC-R Received The ISO LaboratoryKing Abdulaziz Medical City’s in Riyadh laboratories have passed a series of rigorous tests to evaluate the level of  professional competence conducted by inspectors from  the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Subsequently, CAP awarded the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department in KAMC-R with the International ISO Laboratory Accreditation 15189, to be the first medical city outside the United States due to the high quality and outstanding recognition of its medical laboratories.

This was stated by the Head of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department in KAMC-R in MNG-HA, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Ajlan, as he stressed out that receiving the ISO Accreditation is considered a prime target for global laboratories to raise their quality and operational efficiency, since it upholds the best standards and to raise them in order to reach the highest  international standards.

Moreover, since the ISO Accreditation started in 2003, only 13 hospitals all over the world have been accredited so far; all in the U.S., however, not a single clinical medical lab has been accredited outside the U.S. yet. Therefore, the labs in KAMC-R will be the first ISO 15189 accredited clinical medical laboratories outside the U.S.

He also added that selecting the labs in the KAMC-R to be accredited with the ISO 15189 after passing the final evaluation process is a great  achievement  towards the goals of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department in hope to be a laboratory pioneering model for the region. However, the ambitions of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department in regards to Bio Quality development will not stop at receiving the ISO Accreditation, but will continue to get the BioSafety Accreditation and the histocompatibility laboratory Accreditation by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).

Additionally, Dr. Al Ajlan praised the great support of His Royal Highness Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Minister of National Guard, which contributed to the performance of health care development to reach an international level of patient care. He also praised the continuous follow-up by H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy and his directives which contributed in obtaining this international certificate. Last but not least, Dr. Al Ajlan stressed that the plans to receive more international accreditations and raise the work productivity are within the five-year plan for the continuous development of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department in line with the Kingdom’s 2030 vision.
