Launching of the 2nd Pharmacy International Conference
Exploring New Horizons of Pharmacy Practice
H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy launched yesterday, the 16th of April 2017, the “2nd International Conference On Exploring New Horizons of Pharmacy Practice” which was organized by the Department of Pharmaceutical Care Services at King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah, in cooperation with the Deanship of Postgraduate Education in King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, with the participation of international speakers from the United States of America, Belgium and the United Arab Emirates, as well as national speakers and chairpersons from various sectors and the attendance of 650 pharmacists from all health and medical sectors.
During the opening ceremony, The Scientific Committee Chairman, Pharmacist and Assistant Director of Pharmaceutical Care for Clinical Services Dr. Mohammed Asiri delivered a speech in which he pointed out that that the pharmacist by definition is the expert of medicine and one of the health team members engaged to serve the patient, in addition to control the dosage of drugs and medication safety to get the best desired results with minimum side effects. Such responsibility requires the pharmacist to be up to date at all times, as this profession is witnessing rapid and remarkable developments, which requires constant updating of the professional knowledge and skills.
This conference scientific program covers 23 scientific papers as well as 7 workshops discussing the most important developments in pharmaceutical services through subjects related to patient safety, pharmaceutical care development and professional development, with the participation of 6 international speakers representing 12 health and academic sectors. Moreover, the scientific organizing committee had announced earlier, three months ago, the submission of scientific abstracts to be presented in the form of scientific posters, and nearly 79 research papers were received, 48 of which were accepted.
The Conference Chairman, Mr. Hani Al-Hamdan, Director of Pharmaceutical Care Services in KAMC-J said that the conference previous name “Exploring New Horizons of Pharmacy Practice”was chosen to continue providing all updates and developments in the practice of pharmacy to promote safe practices in general and in the hospitals in particular through the MNG-HA approach to strengthen the principles of safe health practices and adhering to the application of high reliability health systems.
Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Education in KSAU-HS - Jeddah, Dr. Yaser Faden, expressed that Postgraduate Education and Academic Affairs is convinced of the importance of higher education in the field of clinical pharmaceutical care, and this conference sheds light on the search of new horizons of pharmacy practice
and the latest developments in the field of pharmaceutical safety, improving the quality of pharmaceutical care, and its applications and economy, it also aims to increase the knowledge exchange between health sectors on both international and national levels in all pharmacy fields.
Moreover, H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy delivered a speech in which he pointed out that the MNG-HA is devoted to the development, training and continuous education of all practitioners in all their categories in order to improve the services provided through its treatment prevention, and academic programs as well as research to achieve a unique integration of the highest professional levels, in addition to the application of medical care universal standards, which enabled the MNG-HA to be an elite institution in health, academics and research.
At the end of the ceremony, the speakers, the scientific committee, the organizing committee and the participating organizations were honored. The Organizing Committee also presented a commemorative plaque to HE Dr. Bandar Al Knawy and then the medical exhibition was launched.
