Separating Saudi Conjoined Twins (Shikhah and Shemoukh) Tomorrow Thursday 25 October 2018
Based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness, the Deputy Premier, the medical and surgical team will perform the Saudi conjoined twins (Shikhah and Shemoukh) separation operation on Thursday, the 25th of October 2018 in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital (KASCH) at King Abdul Aziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs -Riyadh.
His Excellency, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and head of the multidisciplinary medical and surgical team, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, noted that the surgery is expected to last approximately 12 hours through 8 phases with the participation of around 30 doctors and specialists along with the technicians and the nursing staff.
Moreover, His Excellency expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the leadership for their continuous support, noting that this humanitarian program served 21 countries in three continents, and, God willing, this will mark surgery number (46) in a the series of separation surgeries performed on Siamese twins in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Head of Pediatrics Surgery, Dr. Mohammed Al Namshan said the females twins are four months old, each weighing 5.2 kg, they are conjoined in the lower abdomen area and pelvis; each of them has complete lower limbs. They both share the lower part the digestive system as well as the reproductive and urinary system.
H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy also extended his appreciation towards the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense For their unlimited support to the health sectors in the Kingdom and their eagerness for development in order to achieve the future aspirations to meet the 2030 vision.
Dr. Bandar Al Knawy also extended his appreciation to His Highness Prince Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Mohamed bin Eyaf Almuqrin, Minister of National Guard for his devotion towards receiving the twins and his unlimited support for Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs at all levels.
