Achievements of Stem Cell Transplant Programs at MNG-HA Riyadh
Stem cell transplant programs at King Abdulaziz Medical City and King Abdullah specialized children Hospital - Riyadh provide comprehensive and high quality specialized patient care for adult and children who needs hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Stem cell transplant programs was launched in the beginning of 2010. Since the beginning of the transplant programs we have major achievements in regard to number and different types of transplant procedures with high success rate compared to international transplant centers.
Total number of transplants performed= 433 (265 adult and 168 pediatrics)
In 2016= 90 transplants were performed by both adult and pediatric stem cell transplants programs (50 adult and 40 pediatrics), a significant increase in number compared to only 15 in 2010.
Both programs perform all types of transplants including autologous, allogeneic related, unrelated, haploidentical and cord blood transplants.
We used unrelated donors from Saudi stem cell donor registry (SSCDR) and our cord blood bank under KAIMRC.
Mesenchymal stem cells therapy was used successfully to treat severe gut GVHD in one child.
