Primary Health Care Center at National Guard housing in Al-Ahsa present an awareness lecture about the risks of Diabetes on children at Alsafa Primary School as one their scheduled programs and activities.

Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region pointed out that: “ This event is one of the activities directed to the society. We visited the students to achieve the goal of spreading health education and awareness to correct the followed lifestyle that includes lack of exercise and eating unhealthy food.”

Moreover, Dr. Mohammed Al Qasabi, who presented a lecture about “ Sugar is Sweet and Diabetes is Bitter” said: “huge percentage of people are not aware of the risks of their bad lifestyle such as lake of exercises, eating sugar and harmful food, neglect periodic medical examinations.”

Great number of students have attended the lecture in which they learn the importance of exercise and diet in addition they has been aware that fast food is huge source of diseases.

Dr.  Al Qasabi stressed on the importance of training teachers and students to handle cases of high and low blood sugar of other students who are diabetic. He also pointed out that learning how to deal with diabetic case must be applied to all schools.

Moreover, Students and teachers learned about types of diabetes, medications and symptoms of the disease. Dr.  Al Qasabi pointed out: “ School, home and media has great role in spreading awareness about diabetes. Statistics shows that it has been aggravated to effect 1 out of 4 which is serious indicator.”
