The 15th Residency Day


H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy will be attending the 15th Residency Day which will be hosted tomorrow, Thursday: March 19th, 2015 as an honoring celebration for resident physicians in their 15th day ceremony, held at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences – Jeddah.

The ceremony will be commenced with the presence of the Vice President of Postgraduate Education, Dr. Abdulmajeed Al Abdulkareem and the MNG-HA and the University officials in the western region.  This honoring ceremony comes in recognition of these competencies that determines the level of health care provided in any medical center that seeks advancements and excellence while confirming that resident physicians are the primary engine of any health care facility.

Moreover, Dr. Amro Ageel, Surgery Resident and Head of the Organizing Committee, pointed out that the graduates have begun a new phase with spirit filled with optimism and hope.

Dr. Mansour AlQurashi, Associate Dean of  Postgraduate Studies and Academic Affairs at KSAU-HS, Jeddah said that both male and female resident physicians are the backbone of any health facility and any sign of  incompetence will directly and profoundly affect the facility and the real purpose of its existence which is providing quality healthcare.

Dr. Mansour also noted that pushing the continuous medical education forward is one of the fundamental goals of Postgraduate Studies and Academic Affairs are trying to achieved through:

  1. Pursuing the development of medical education, trainees skills and medical knowledge.

  2. Ensuring the continued excellence of Ministry of National Guard-  Health Affairs, by developing  the skills of doctors (trainers / trainees) to become one of the prominent international organizations.

  3. Working on filling vacant and rare medical positions with highly qualified Saudis graduates from both training programs and fellowship programs.

  4. Providing a nourishing environment for resident and sub-specialty physicians by providing them with training courses, which have an effective and essential role in their professional development as well as their clinical and academic knowledge.

  5. Pursuing the Canadian training standards by obtaining the accreditation of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for our training programs oriented for resident physicians.

Additionally, Dr. Al Qurashi indicated that the number of resident physicians in King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah has increased from 32 physicians in 1996 to more than 313 physicians during the year of 2015, representing a 33% of resident physicians from various health sectors in Makkah Region.

Meanwhile, 43 out of 46 resident physicians have passed the Saudi Board, which is equivalent to 94%, the largest number of graduates in a Saudi Board program in the history of the King Abdulaziz Medical City – Jeddah. Besides, 19 subspecialty fellowship programs have been allocated to be pursued after the Saudi Board, as well as increasing the number of training programs to 27 programs under the supervision of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

In short, the Director of Medical Education in KSAU-HS, Dr. Yasser Faden said that today, we are celebrating a group of doctors’ graduation in various specialties along with celebrating our resident physicians for their achievement and success. It’s also an eventful day for Postgraduate Studies and Academic Affairs at KSAU-HS to review their past years achievements in order to plan for further progress and to overcome the current challenges facing graduate studies.
