Successful Complex Cardiac Intervention in King Faisal Cardiac Center – Jeddah

It is with enormous pride that we announce the successful delivery of a live satellite transmission of a complex cardiac Intervention from King Faisal Cardiac Center to one of the largest International medical meetings in the World in the United Kingdom today.

The patient had a severely complex disease in his heart arteries requiring treatment, and had sought opinion from two other Hospitals before consulting with Dr Farqad Alamgir, Chairman of Cardiac Sciences at King Faisal Cardiac Center. His team were able to offer treatment to the patient, and also the case was of ideal to use as a demonstration of advanced techniques to the AIM Radial Masterclass Meeting in the UK.

This meeting is attended by over 200 of the worlds leading heart specialists from North America, Europe, China, and Japan, and is the largest meeting of its type. This is the first time a center from the Middle East has had the opportunity to participate and is a great honour.

The case was planned beforehand with Dr Alamgirs team – Dr Simon Thackray, and Dr Asim Javed – two of the other interventional cardiologists at National Guard in Jeddah, and was performed with live video images and discussion of the case – showcasing the excellent quality of facilities, care, and expertise available in Saudi Arabia, and using some of the newest technology available in the World.

In the Audience in the meeting were some of the leading figures in cardiology Internationally, with the case taking nearly two hours there was an excellent discussion of the techniques used, and the Audience gave congratulations to Dr Alamgir and his team at the successful conclusion of the procedure, with the full restoration of the previously diseased artery in the patients heart. The Patient will return back to his family in Abha in two days – having spent months finding treatment, he can now expect a full recovery and restoration of function.

The conference organisers of Dr Jim Nolan from the UK and Professor Oliver Bertrand from Canada were also kind enough to send through congratulations specifically to the team at National Guard for what had been not just a great procedure for the patient, but also a good scientific debate – with a clear explanation of the techniques used earning particular gratitude from the Conference leaders.
