Neonatal Bone Health Program Project at KAMC-RD
The neonatal Bone Health Program project overseen by the Neonatal Intensive Care Department was awarded by the National Patient Safety Center as the first winner on 02 December 2018 by H.E the Minister of Health.
The Neonatal Bone Health Program is a multi-disciplinary improvement project launched by the Neonatal Intensive Care Department in October 2015, aiming to eliminate bone fractures in high-risk infants.
Implemented Changes

Implementation of an approved Departmental Clinical Guidelines and Policies for the care of Babies with Fragile Bones.

Developed accessible educational materials for both healthcare providers and families.

Competency trainings of 100% of NICU and ICN Nurses in the Bone Health Program.

Execution of four successful, CME-accredited awareness days for healthcare providers.

Program expansion to the Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Cardiac ICU and Pediatric Emergency.
Program Achievements
As of December 2021, Zero incidents of neonatal Bone Fracture with more than 1820 Days Zero Fractures.
Improvement of some common Neonatal Outcomes among high-risk infants, such as:

Decreased Mechanical Ventilation Days.

Less days required to reach full enteral feeds.

Shorter Length of Hospital Stay.
