Neonatal Nurses

Neonatal Nurses

Neonatal Nurses are part of a specialized team caring for small, sick and premature newborn babies. Working in teams with other health professionals, Neonatal Nurses use highly specialized technology to provide highly specialized care and support to babies and their families. Major advancements in research and technology has seen Neonatal Nurses increasingly caring for smaller and sicker babies who may have more complex illnesses requiring investigations and/or surgery.

Most Neonatal Nurses provide direct patient care within a range of environments including acute neonatal intensive care units, flight retrieval services, palliative care and community-based chronic care. They also have the option of further developing their career in the areas of education, research or management.

A career as a Neonatal Nurse is both challenging and exciting. Every day brings with it the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of newborn babies and their families.
