Perioperative Anesthesia

Perioperative Anesthesia

Perioperative medicine aims to deliver the best possible care to surgery patients. This includes pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care. The aim will be achieved by refining existing care pathways and developing new pathways.

The goal is to improve the patient experience, reduce post-operative complications, reduce inpatient hospital days and reduce early re-admissions following surgery.

The benefits of perioperative systems include:

  • Increased surgical volume and flow.
  • Shorter pre-operative length of stay.
  • Fewer cancellations of surgery.
  • The relative reduction in the number and cost of the pre-operative investigation.
  • Improve long-term patient outcomes after surgery.
