King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center

The King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center (KACC) is one of the leading centers in the Middle East for contemporary cardiac care. It has comprehensive programs for managing an entire spectrum of cardiac diseases for all ages (Adult & Pediatric). It is an internationally accredited center that provides a complete range of high-quality clinical, educational, and research activities.

KACC Milestones

  • 2001

The first phase of the Cardiac Center was commissioned. It consisted of 74 critical and step-down beds, three catheterization laboratories, and three operating rooms.

  • 2002

The first in the region Nurse-led Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Disease Management Program was started in 2000 and was expanded with a comprehensive informatics data warehouse in 2010.

  • 2010

  1. The second phase of the Cardiac Center was commissioned. It consisted of 3 floors that included 74 new step-down monitored beds, a cardiac non-invasive laboratory, cardiac rehabilitation, and a dedicated outpatient facility with specialized clinics for high-risk patients (anticoagulation and dental care). In addition, comprehensive cardiac informatics services were also established.
  2. Division of Cardiac Critical Care was established.

  • 2011

Division of Cardiac Anesthesia established as part of Cardiac Sciences Department.

  • 2017


  1. The third phase of the Cardiac Center, including a comprehensive Advanced Cardiac Imaging facility, was completed. This expanded the imaging services, which were established in 2006. It is the only and leading imaging center in the region with world-class expertise in all the fields of cardiac imaging - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Cardiac Computed Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Stress Testing (Treadmill, Dobutamine, and Nuclear). Currently, the division provides state-of-the-art imaging services to National Guard patients and Saudi nationals from all over Saudi Arabia.

  • 2020

The hybrid operating room for complex procedures was commissioned.

The mechanical heart support program (Heartmate3 and Berlin Heart) was established.

  • 2021

  1. The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation accredited the King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center as a Heart Transplant Center in January 2021. Over a period of 8 months, six cardiac transplant cases were performed successfully. King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center introduced the Berlin-Heart VAD to the Kingdom and performed the first Pediatric Heart Transplant bridged with Berlin-Heart.

Accreditation / Certifications:

  • The transplant program was awarded accreditation by the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation in 2021.

  • In 2019, we joined the registry of the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) in the United States.

  • In 2014 the Center received certificate of recognition for providing high-quality cardiovascular care by “Quality Improvement for Institution” by the American College of Cardiology

  • In February 2014, the echocardiography laboratory was awarded the standard accreditation in TTE and TEE by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (ESCVI) and was renewed up to November 2024.

  • The center is part of the NCDR CathRegistry by the American College of Cardiology since 2012.

KACC Educational Programs

King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center is an accredited facility by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) for the following training programs:

  • Electrocardiography (ECG) Technician Diploma Program in collaboration with the Health Academy of the SCFHS.

KACC Scope of Services

KACC provides state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic tertiary cardiac care, including transplant, for all age groups.

KACC is equipped with the latest technology to support its services –

  • 4 Operating Rooms (ORs)

  • Hybrid Cathlab/Operating Room

  • 5 State of the art Catheterization Laboratories including Electrophysiology Service

  • Advanced Cardiac Imaging (Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, Nuclear Cardiology)

  • Cardiac Critical Care Services ( Adult & Pediatric Critical Care)

  • Stepdown Units and High Dependency Wards (all bed-monitored)

Cardiac Ambulatory Clinic including specialized Nurse-led Cardiovascular Disease Management Program.
