Treatment Guidelines

A sustained effort is being made by the department to establish country-specific clinical practice guidelines according to established evidence and standards of care. The department has initiated lung cancer guidelines, following those set by the NCC.

Tumor Boards

In collaboration with the Departments of Radiology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Surgery and other departments in the hospital, the Department of Oncology has implemented weekly multidisciplinary Tumor Boards, including breast, lymphoma, head and neck, hepatocellular, gynecology-oncology, neuro-oncology, pediatric neuro-oncology, thoracic, and gastro-intestinal boards, to address the complexities of patient diagnosis and staging work-up and to ensure accurate and timely patient management, according to established, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. The department also actively participates in two regularly-scheduled telemedicine conferences with St. Jude Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, and Memorial Sloane-Kettering Hospital in New York City.

Quality Care Improvement

Improved quality of care through utilization of a multidisciplinary team model. Each division conducts weekly multidisciplinary patient care rounds which include representatives of a range of disciplines, including: Specialty Medicine; Oncology and Palliative Care Nursing,; Clinical Psychology; Clinical Nutrition, Patient Education/Play Therapist; Social Work; Clinical Pharmacy; and Clinical Coordination
