Ward 1​ 

Consists of 25 beds. Admits patients who are less than 22 weeks pregnant (completed weeks) and women with gynecological (reproductive system) disorders.

Provides the following:
  • Pre and post-operative care related to female reproductive system through abdominal or vaginal approach.

  • Care of patient post cesarean section.

  • Post-partum care.

  • Care of patient post termination of pregnancy/miscarriage/abortion.

  • Contraceptive counselling.

  • Newborn care.

  • Breastfeeding advice and support.

  • Patient and family education.

  • Neonatal resuscitation.

  • Obstetric emergency care.

Patient Population

  • Pregnant patient with less than 22 weeks of completed gestational age.

  • Women with gynecological disorders.

Hours of Operation: 24 hours/7 days a week.
No of Beds: 25 Beds.
Occupancy Rate: 90%

Primary Procedures

  • Triaging using the obstetrical triage acuity scale.

  • Obstetric assessment.

  • CTG monitoring.

  • Preoperative care for emergency cesarean section.

  • Assist with/perform spontaneous vaginal delivery.

  • Assist with operative/instrumental vaginal delivery.

  • Assist with assisted breech delivery.

  • Assist with/perform repair of vaginal laceration and episiotomy.

  • Immediate post-partum assessment/care.

  • Initial newborn care.

  • Assist and support breastfeeding.

  • Obstetric emergency care.

  • Neonatal resuscitation.

  • Assisting with and care of patient for external cephalic version (ECV).

  • Assisting with and care of patient for removal of cervical cerclage.

  • Cervical Incompetence; Uterine Fibroids; Management of Early Pregnancy problems up to 28 weeks of gestation e.g. hyperemisis gravidarum, diabetes, PIH, Renal Disorders, Cardiac Disease – sickle cell anemia; Ectopic Pregnancy;

  • Cysto/Rectocoele; Abortions – threatened, inevitable, incomplete up to 28 weeks; IVF Complication; Postpartum/NSVD Overflow; Caesarian Section; Elective and Emergency Gynaecology Surgery;

  • Reproductive System Carcinomas – Ovarian, cervical, vulva & endometrial Cancer; Gestation Trophoblastic Diseases; Anterior/Posterior Repair;
