Function and scope of services

Clinical care: Providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary, subspecialty care for children with Cancer and Blood Disorders. It includes a Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (from birth to 14 years of age).

Goals of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

  • To provide a state-of-the-art, high-quality, safe clinical service through a comprehensive, family-centered, multidisciplinary approach.
  • To move toward sub-specialization (disease-specific programs) in keeping with the current trend in the field of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
  • To serve as a referral center for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant patients.
  • To focus the educational mission on physicians and allied health professionals with an emphasis on training future leaders in the field of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
  • To help educate the community on identifying the early signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and blood diseases.
  • To promote clinical, translational, and basic research on the prevention and treatment of childhood malignancies and blood disorders within the institute and through extramural collaboration to improve cure rates.
  • Promoting other academic pursuits in the form of medical publications and presentations at national and international conferences.

    • Central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) rate

    • Hand Hygiene (HH) rate

  • Procedures:

    • Adherence to the process

    • Cancellation rate

  • Percentage of new Oncology Cases presented at tumor boards

  • Number of transplants

  • SCT Engraftment Rate

  • 30 days, 100 days, 365 days Mortality after cellular therapy product administration

  • Graft versus host disease, GVHD

  • Central venous Catheter infection (fungal and bacterial)

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinical Care Outcomes

  • 70-80 New Pediatric oncology patients Annually.

  • Total 422 transplants have been done 2010-2021 .

  • Expansion in number of transplants reaching 65-70 transplants/year including all types of transplants , with transplant related mortality rate < 5% throughout the past period.
