This is the first specialist Children’s Hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, occupying 192,000m2, over 10 levels.
The hospital has been designed as a patient focused facility with the patient at the center of care. The Hospital is a paperless digital hospital with all patient files electronically maintained.
The hospital has a four floor podium level accommodating the Emergency Department and state of the art Day Care, Diagnostic and Treatment Departments. Three Towers rise from the podium accommodates the in-patientsingle rooms.
The hospital provides all specialist care for paediatric inclusive of a dedicated Oncology Program providing Chemotherapy, Radiation Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant and Organ Transplant Programs for Liver and Kidney Transplant.
The 600 inpatient single rooms are allocated as follows:
Paediatric, Medicine Surgery 276 beds
which includes dedicated Sleep Study, Epilepsy Monitoring and VIP Units
Oncology and Hematology 142 beds
Organ Transplant Surgery 72 beds
Intensive Care Units 62 beds inclusive of a dedicated Paediatric Burns Unit
Other: 48 beds
All patient rooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities and dedicated family area with overnight facilities. Each Paediatric ward has dedicated classrooms, playroom and family resource facilities.

Radiation Oncology – 2 Linear Accelerators, Brachytherapy and Cyberknife treatment Unit.
The Hospital will provide comprehensive tri-modality cancer treatments, in terms of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy – with a dedicated Cyclotron on campus.
There are 14 Operating Rooms and 2 Interventional Radiology Rooms to support the full range of emergency and elective surgeries, with dedicated operating rooms for organ transplant and the separation of conjoined twins.

As an Academic Teaching hospital there are On-site Conference Rooms, Lecture Halls and Electronic Library facilities.
King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital commenced operations with the opening of the Paediatric Emergency Department and the transfer of the Paediatric program on the 19th and 20th April 2015. The Transfer of 90 patients inclusive of 11 Intensive care critical patients took in total 9 hours and 30 minutes over 2 days.
All support services in the Hospital were commissioned and the operation was commenced prior to the transfer of patients. The transfer plan was planned minute by minute and mobilized every department within National Guard.
Phase 2 Expansion will commence on the 15th June 2015, incorporating the transfer of the complete Oncology and Hematology Program, inclusive of the Radiation Oncology Program.
