  • Prepare residents to act as primary care providers for individuals and groups of patients.
  • Provide residents with postdoctoral training in all aspects of clinical dentistry.
  • Expose residents to advance ethical clinical research and principles of practice management.

​Academic Activities in the Program

Didactic Courses

These are comprehensive lectures and seminars in all areas of dental science, including Maxillofacial Anatomy, Oral Diagnosis, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, Oral Surgery, Operative Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Implantology, Public Health, and Biomaterials. Lectures include core courses enhancing critical scientific approaches, research, and teaching skills.

The didactic components of the program are designed to enable residents to apply scientific concepts and contemporary literature to their clinical performance in treating oral diseases and advancing the art and science of general clinical dentistry.

  • Clinical Training

The residents are assigned to do comprehensive care to assigned patients from treatment planning to complete management that fully restores oral health.

Treatment is rendered under the supervision of specialists in different dental specialties and general dentistry. Through these specialties, residents receive training in Oral Diagnosis, Operative Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry, Removable and Fixed Prosthodontics, Oral Implantology, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Orthodontics, and Endodontics.

  • Research Training

Residents will be exposed to research through attending some lectures and Continuous Education courses as an introduction to research. Residents will develop a research proposal and get approval from King Abdullah International Medical Research Center.

Literature Reviews:

In keeping with the program's emphasis on the dental literature and continuing dental education, oral literature reviews are an essential aspect of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program. The purposes of oral literature reviews, in addition to emphasizing the value of the dental literature, include these requirements:

  1. Requiring the resident to critically evaluate scientific articles, not simply to accept them at face value.
  2. Requiring the resident to synopsize the pertinent information from an article into a clear and concise abstract.
  3. Requiring the residents to give oral presentations to improve public speaking skill
