Chemical Splash in the Eye  

What to do if in case of a chemical splash in the eye?  

  •  Use clean, lukewarm water to flush your eye for at least 20 minutes, you can: A red eye
    • In the shower, aim a gentle stream on the forehead over the affected eye.
    • Or, if both your eyes are affected, aim the water on the bridge of your nose.
    • Or, under a lightly running faucet, lower your head and turn it to the side, holding the affected eye open.
    • For young children it might be best if they lie down in the bathtub or lean back over a sink while you apply either direction mentioned before.
  • Thoroughly clean your hands with soap and water, making sure no chemical or soap is left on them.
  • Remove contact lenses.

What not to do?

  • Don't rub the eye.
  • Don't put anything other than water or contact lens saline rinse in the eye, and don't use eye drops unless an emergency personnel instructs you otherwise.

After performing the first-aid, seek emergency care or call your local emergency number (997). Make sure to take the chemical container or the name of the chemical with you to the emergency department. The eyes will be sensitive to light so if possible wear sunglasses.
