RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM
Overview:
The department of intensive care medicine has rotating residents from all disciplines within King Abdulaziz Medical city, from other institutions in the kingdom, ministry of health hospitals and even institutions outside the kingdom. The department aims to provide them a formal instruction, clinical experience and competency in a wide range of critical care medicine, technical and procedural skills. Around 20 to 25 residents rotate in the intensive care unit every two months. Truly innovative teaching remains a top priority for the department. Our residency curriculum includes contemporary teaching and learning strategies. In addition to a large number of patients’ exposure, residents will attend a basic critical care course that includes didactic lectures and workshops. They will also learn procedural skills (central venous catheterization, airway management, chest tube placement), teamwork and crisis management in our state of the art simulation laboratory. This is all accomplished through the treatment of a substantial patient population, the facilities of the Intensive Care department, and a diverse faculty.
