Hysterosalpingogram (H.S.G)
It is an X-ray test that examines the inside of uterus and fallopian tubes and the surrounding area. The purpose is to examine the tube that the egg passes through after ovulation.
How to prepare for the examination:
Procedure:
The radiologist might ask you to urinate.
You will change into a hospital gown for the procedure.
You will be asked to lie onto the x-ray table for a preliminary scan.
You will bend your knees and spread them.
The doctor will inject the dye through the vagina.
The examination might be uncomfortable and somewhat painful.
The doctor will take the x-ray.
The duration of the examination:
From the start of the exam it can take up to an hour.
Getting the results:
The doctor will write a report and it will be added to you medical file. Afterwards, you will be scheduled an appointment with the doctor who had requested the x-ray to follow up on the results.
Notes:
You must come on time.
Your appointment will be canceled if you are 15 minutes late.
