​Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (O-EMRAM) - Stage 7  

Ministry of National Guard-Health Affairs, King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh celebrated the HIMSS Outpatient-EMRAM Stage 7 accreditation on Monday July 8th, 2019. The accreditation was presented by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), which recognizes healthcare organizations that have improved the healthcare services and patient experience by using advanced information technology and electronic medical record systems.

His Excellency, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, Chief Executive Officer of MNGHA mentioned that “Improving the quality of care and patient safety is among the key strategic objectives of MNGHA. Highly mature health IT technologies assist the organization in the process of reaching those objectives”.

Professor Mohamed Al Moamary, Executive Director, Medical Services added that “Our outpatient services have been greatly enhanced by implementing a highly mature electronic medical record system. We are now able to effectively promote clinical and patient engagement as well as patient education through the patient portal and other health IT technologies”.

Dr. Raed Al Hazme, Executive Director of Information Services & Informatics Division (ISID), MNGHA commented that “O-EMRAM encapsulates several best practices that vastly help in the highly mature implementation of health IT technologies in the organization. By following O-EMRAM guidelines, we were able to increase the maturity of our EMR system and the ancillary IT systems in our environment ”.

MNG-HA has successfully implemented advanced digital information technology and adapted the Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (O-EMRAM) in order to improve the outcomes of patient services, quality, and operation of the healthcare services. The main objective of this approach is to better serve the medical staff and patients alike.

For patients, the electronic medical record promotes their engagement with the organization, and in particular, the physician through a mobile application developed by MNG-HA called “MNGHA Care”. The patient can now book appointments, request and print medical reports, request medication refills and check the results of tests such as laboratory and radiology results. For cases that do not require the patient’s visit to the clinic, MNG-HA has developed a mobile application for conducting the clinic visit virtually, through a secure connection. For such specific cases, the healthcare services are provide to the patients at their comfort.

In addition, the Ministry of National Guard - Health affairs has always been keen on the role of health education and its importance in promoting the health of the individual and society through presenting educational messages relating to diseases, women's health, medicines, health calculators and a number of preventive tests. In addition to (My Health) feature, which mainly focuses on the patient’s general health through daily exercise and calories consumption, as well as weight, BMI, and blood pressure and sugar rates.

This accreditation stands as a recognition for MNG-HA commitment with regards to improving the quality of patient care, ensuring safe environment, enhancing the patients’ engagement as well as implementing the best practices and highest healthcare standards.

The accreditation was presented by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a global healthcare advisor, providing guidance and market intelligence solutions that move the industry forward with insight to enable better health through the use of information and technology. ​
