Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital succeeds in performing a total knee replacement with robot assisted and artificial intelligence for the first time in the Medina region.
In a new medical achievement for Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in the Medina region, the hospital has successfully added a new advanced technology in specialized orthopedic surgeries to its record of superior health capabilities. For the first time in the Medina region, the medical team used robotic technology and artificial intelligence for a total knee replacement, relieving a patient in her seventies who suffered from severe pain in her left knee, which restricted her ability to walk and move normally, significantly affecting her daily life. After conducting the necessary medical examinations and scans, it was found that she had severe osteoarthritis in her left knee with leg deviation. Consequently, the medical team decided to use the modern medical technology to replace her knee joint using robotic technology and artificial intelligence.
The orthopedic surgery team took two hours to perform the surgery. The team leader, Dr. Raed Abu Talib, an Orthopedic Surgery Consultant, confirmed that the operation was successful and the patient is in good health, receiving the necessary medical care and currently undergoing a rehabilitation and physical therapy plan under the medical team's supervision. Dr. Raed pointed out that the robotic and artificial intelligence device added to the hospital's healthcare has a high precision rate of 99% in performing artificial joint operations, matching the natural joint for patients. He also stated that such operations can now be performed at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in Medina, along with other advanced medical procedures, due to the hospital's advanced medical equipment and qualified technical staff.
The Executive Director of Medical Services at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital, Dr. Turki Al Wasaidi, affirmed that the medical care services at the hospital are continuously developing and striving to serve all patients with the best specialized medical staff in various fields.
Additionally, the Executive Director of Operations at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital, Mr. Mansour bin Nasser Al Askar, emphasized that the hospital is continuously updating and developing all operational medical and support devices in various patient healthcare areas to keep pace with global developments and align with the National Guard Health Affairs' vision and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's vision to lead in comprehensive healthcare.
