Anesthesia Department

To provide the highest possible standards of care for all patients presenting for anesthetic services at the MNGHA - King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) - Western Region (WR). This includes, but not limited to:

• Pre-operative assessment and consultation.
• Perioperative care that starts from monitored anesthesia care to providing general anesthesia under standard safety measures.
• Post-operative care and acute pain management.
• Provision of sedation/analgesia under controlled and safety standards for all age groups undergoing diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions.
• Chronic pain care.

Pediatric Anesthesia Services

Capacity

• Eight hundred to one thousand (800-1000) patients per month are seen in the Pre-Anesthesia Clinic/ Pain Management Clinic.
• Eight hundred to one thousand (800-1000) Surgical Cases per month/ Pain Management intervention Procedures.
  

Scope of Services

• Pre-operative assessment and consultations in PAC
• Routine lists in operating theatres
• Anesthesia in L & D Theatre
• Regular list in Dental OR
• Anesthesia in the Endoscopy Unit
• Anesthesia in Radiology Suite
• Anesthesia in Oncology for Radiation therapy treatment
• Anesthesia in Recovery Room for ECTs treatment
• Provision of sedation/analgesia
• Chronic pain service (Pain Management Clinic)
• Interventional pain management procedures at the Radiology and PACU
• Acute pain service (Adult/Pediatric)
• Specialized Pediatric Anesthesia coverage for highly complicated pediatric surgeries
• Two Day Surgery ORs
• Education of residents in the Saudi Residency Program Specialty of Anesthesia and residents of other specialties.
• Education of fellows in Saudi Fellowship program in specialty of Pain Management/ Pediatric Anesthesia.
• Trauma team and other departmental/hospital committees
• Clinical research and continuous medical education
• Teaching, observation, and evaluation of undergraduate students of COM-J.
• Teaching, observation, and evaluation of undergraduate students at COAMS-J
• Education of trainees in Anesthesia Technology under Saudi Career Development program.
