Predicting Patient Return to the Emergency Department

An opportunity to develop a predictive model for determining the return of patients to the emergency department within 72 hours based on clinical variables from the electronic health record:

  1. Improving Healthcare Services: By developing a predictive model to identify patients' return to the emergency department within 72 hours, medical providers can improve the quality of care and provide appropriate treatment for patients likely to return to emergency.
  2. Improving Discharge Plan Management: The predictive model can help improve the processes of preparing discharge plans for patients, which assists in directing continuous care after leaving the emergency department and reduces the likelihood of return.
  3. Reducing Emergency Department Congestion: By identifying patients who are likely to return to the emergency department, the developed model can contribute to relieving pressure on the emergency department and alleviating congestion.
