Cardiac Catheterization Lab

Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL) is comprised of 5 procedure laboratories, 1 hybrid cath lab/operating room and 7 pre and post procedure recovery beds. The CCL performs all current advanced cardiac catheterization procedures including pediatric interventional, implantable cardiac device procedures and TAVI. The average yearly total for all patients through the CCL is 3000 pa.


Patient Population: Adult, Pediatrics and Neonates – Mixed Gender

Hours of Operation: 0700 – 1900 (Sun to Thurs). On–call team provide emergency coverage 7 days per

week after hours

Occupancy Rate: 3000 patients per annum

Staff Categories: Nurse Manager, Clinical Resource Nurse, Nurse Coordinator, Staff Nurse I & II, Patient Care Technician

Primary Diagnosis:

  • Acute Myocardial Infarction

  • Cardiac Arrhythmias

  • Cardiomyopathy

  • Congenital Heart Disease

  • Heart Failure

  • Pericardial Effusion

  • Valvular Disease

  • Unstable Angina

Primary procedures:

  • ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) Closure

  • Cardioversion

  • Coarctation Dilatation

  • Co-Lateral Coiling

  • Diagnostic Coronary Angiograms

  • E.P. Studies (Electrophysiology Studies Plus Ablation)

  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (Angioplasty and Stenting)

  • Pericardiocentesis

  • PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) Closure

  • Permanent Pacemaker (Single or Dual Chamber) and AICD

  • Valvuloplasty

  • VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) Closure

  • Tilt Table Test

  • TAVI

  • Watchman Device Closure

  • Insertion of Aortic Balloon Pump and Swan Ganz

  • Temporary Pacemaker

  • PDA Closure / Stenting

  • AICD
