Immunopathology
Immunopathology encompasses three areas:
-
Serology
-
Histocompatibility
-
Flow Cytometry
Serology Laboratory:
The Serology laboratory measures antibody responses, in various disease states. Immunologic tests are used as an aid in diagnosis, therapy monitoring or to determine immune / non-immune status.
Serology laboratory screens and confirms antibodies associated with different autoantibodies and infectious diseases in patients, blood bank donors, new employees, blood kidney and liver transplantation, biological blood products etc.
Serology is performing approximately 400 samples per day.
HLA Laboratory:
The HLA laboratory provides state of the art histocompatibility testing to support National Guard Hospitals in Riyadh, Jeddah and Eastern Province. Histocompatibility testing is performed for:
-
Hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients and donors,
-
Patients awaiting kidney & liver transplantation,
-
Recurrent fetal loss patients,
-
Disease associations
HLA typings are performed using both serological and molecular techniques. HLA antibody detection methods include serology (complement-dependent cytotoxicity), ELISA, and flow cytometry. Molecular HLA testing includes sequenced-based testing, SSP and SSOP (ELISA) technology.
Flow Cytometry Laboratory:
The flow Cytometry Laboratory is a vital part of our comprehensive approach to the diagnosis of Haematological and Lymphoid malignancies. This laboratory offers state-of-the-art diagnostic services based on multi-parameter flow cytometric analysis for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and related hematological disorders. Furthermore, this laboratory is also involved in the diagnosis if congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies. An estimated 600 samples/year are processed and analyzed in this laboratory.
