WARD 15 - Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)

An inpatient unit that provides services for Neurosurgery, Ortho-spine surgery, and Adult Epilepsy Monitoring unit (EMU). Primary patient diagnoses include brain, spinal tumors, severe head injuries, trauma injuries, multiple fractures, intracranial bleeds, subdural hematomas, and raised intracranial pressure.


Unit Description:

Ward 15- Neurosurgery/Ortho-spine surgery

EMU – Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

Patient Population:

Adult - Age 14 year and above

Mixed gender

Hours of Operation:

24 hours per day / 7 days per week

No of Beds: 22-bedded ward (19 Neurosurgery/3 EMU)

Occupancy Rate: 100%

Staff Categories:

  • Total parenteral Nutrition.

  • Catheter insertion.

  • Wound Care.

  • Suture / Staple Removal.

  • Tracheostomy Care.

  • PCA and Epidural.

  • Assist with and care for traction (skin/skeletal/hallo).

  • Glucometer Check.

  • Assisting with LP.

  • Care of EVD Drain.

  • Spinal Injury.

  • Corrective Spinal Surgery.

  • Epilepsy Surgery.

  • Insertion of VNS (Vagal Nerve Stimulator).

  • Temporal / Frontal Parietal Lobectomy.

  • Lesionectomy.

  • Insertion of Subdural Grid.
