The CSSD renders a service of Decontamination, Preparation, Sterilization and Distribution of all reusable items to the Operating Room, Wards and Department in the hospital and Primary Health Care clinics. CSSD also provides a daily top-up service of trays/ sets of instruments and consumables items in OR, Wards and Department from Saturday to Wednesday. The CSSD provides an Adult and Pediatric Crash Cart exchange program for non-critical patient care areas.

Achievements
The CSSD embarked on a project in 2005 to decrease the incidence of missing instruments across all clinical service areas by using the organizations PI (Performance Improvement) model FOCUS - PDCA.
- In 2004 within a 4 month period – August – November 2004
45 instruments went missing from Wards, Department and OR.
Implementation of color coding system – all instruments -- from
- August 2005 – November 2005
Instrument checklists were revised – total instruments placed on the list to ease checking for Ward/Department staff.
- 2007 – January – December 2007
Total of only 16 – instruments went missing across all clinical areas – Wards/ Departments and OR.
- 2004 – 45 instruments missing (August – November 2004) (4 months)
