The Intensive Care Department (ICD) was established as a fully independent department in 2004 by the amalgamation of the medical and surgical intensive care units.
The department provides multi-disciplinary critical care services for patients above 14 years, including medical, surgical, and Oncology cases, functioning as a high dependency unit for these specialties.
The services are provided in a 32-bed capacity, 12 beds in ICU 1, 8 beds in ICU 2, 5 beds in ICU 3, and 7 beds in ICU 4) with the total commitment of intensive care physicians and nurses.
Mission:
The mission of the Intensive Care Department is to provide the highest possible standard of critical care medicine for all patients treated in the department and provide cardio-respiratory resuscitation for all adult patients at the King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) - Western Region (WR).
The department is also committed to providing a complete educational opportunity to all trainees in the Saudi Specialization Program (in critical care programs or rotating from other programs) and encouraging them to pursue relevant specialty training programs and embark upon new techniques ensuring the highest standard of patient care.
We are also conducting high-quality scientific research and studies and advances that would bring enormous benefits to the patients of the National Guard and kingdom-wide and International.
With these virtues, we have put clinical care for our patients first and at the same time built a department based on quality and patient safety.
Vision:
To be widely recognized as a center of innovation and excellence in clinical care, education, and research in Critical Care Medicine. To provide an enriching environment for our employees and an exceptional health care experience for our patients and their families.
