ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES IN THE PROGRAM
Weekly Fellows’ Rounds
Neonatal Fellow’s Seminars
Objectives: Review of the basic sciences with a focus of one (1) topic each week and integrating this with clinical Neonatology. Topics should cover the requirements from the subspecialty training program. Review of ongoing neonatal and perinatal research projects will also be covered.
Format: Options are:
Case presentation and topic review
Formal lecture
Discussion (combined with another form)

Moderator: Neonatologist on-service
Pediatric Residents’ Seminars
Objectives: Review major neonatal topics at Resident’s level
Format: Topic review
Moderator: Fellow covering intensive care unit in NICU
Perinatal Mortality Rounds
Objectives:
Review all delivery cases and discuss problem cases
Provide monthly cumulative data of perinatal and neonatal mortality cases
Identify contributing causes of perinatal death for each case.
Recommended program aimed at improving the quality of future patient-care
Serve as an educational and research forum
Format:
Present the monthly data of admissions to NICU
For each use:
Moderator: Neonatologist on-service
Journal Club
Objectives: To be updated with recent literature and serve as a forum for critically appraising published articles.
Format: Two (2) papers to be picked-up by the Fellow and reviewed in details.
Moderator: Neonatologist on-service
Discharge Summaries Meeting
Objectives: To assure completion of discharge summary of all patients and to verify any questions on the management.
Format: All discharge summaries the week before should be done by the Resident then reviewed by the Fellow prior to the meeting.
Moderator: Neonatologist on-service
Perinatal - Antenatal High-Risk Meeting
Objectives: To discuss all high-risk pregnancy cases with Perinatologist
Format: Case discussion
Moderator: Neonatologist on-service and Consultant Obstetrician
Monthly Perinatal - Neonatal Club Meeting
Objectives: To discuss a topic, case of interest
Format: Topic or case presentation
Moderator: Chairman of the club
Other Educational Activities:
- Epidemiology Course
- Scientific conferences: Fellows should attend one (1) scientific conference (national or international) per year and are encouraged to present abstracts at such meetings.
- Teaching opportunities: NICU nurses, informal Residents, Pediatrics Department teaching seminar
