Providing the institution with all kinds of Infectious Diseases consultations, inpatients, and outpatient’s services.
The consultation service includes:
Clinically evaluate patients
Order appropriate lab investigations and radiographic studies
Trying to reach a diagnosis
Discussing the case with the primary team
Suggesting the appropriate therapy
Following patients and evaluating their response to therapy
Involvement of the attending physicians at the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) which is concerned with admission of general Internal Medicine patients
All cases that are HIV-positive are admitted under the care of Infectious Diseases consultants.
Major Functions:
Clinical:
Inpatient consultations:
The average number of ID consultations is 30 per week. Patients are evaluated and suggested plan of management discussed with the primary team
Outpatient consultations:
The number of new consults is 1-2 per clinic. Currently, there are 9 clinics per week (7 routine clinics, 2 MPD clinics)
Education:
The Division is actively involved in Medical Residency Training with medical residents rotating through the division
The division medical staff is involved in teaching medical students from College of Medicine – KSAU-HS
The Division is actively involved in making and following the implementation of Clinical Pathways and Protocols for various infections
The Division is involved in Medical staff education in the Department of Medicine as well as the other department in the institution.
Some of ID consultants are involved in educating general people regarding infections.
Research:
The Division is active in research in Infectious Diseases, prevention of Infections and nosocomial infections.
The Division is actively involved in research with medical students
The Division is involved with research from investigators outside the division.
