Pediatric Cardiac ICU ​ 

Pediatric Cardiac ICU is a 12 bedded critical unit that caters to neonatal and pediatric patients, from 0 to 14 years old, with congenital and acquired complex cardiac defects with other co-morbidities; pre and post Cardiac Surgery; pre and post-diagnostic/interventional Cardiac Catheterization. The unit has a high rotation of patients and an occupancy rate of 100%.​

Patient Population: Neonates & Pediatrics up to 14 years. Mixed Gender

Hours of Operation: 24/7

No of Beds: 12

Occupancy Rate: 100%

Staff Categories: Nurse Manager, Clinical Resource Nurse, Nurse Coordinator, Staff Nurse I & II, Patient Care Technician.

Primary Diagnosis:

  • Heart Transplant Surgery

  • Congenital and acquired complex cardiac defect with other co-morbidities

  • Pre and Post Cardiac Surgery

  • Pre and Post Diagnostic, Interventional Cardiac Catheterization

Primary Procedures:

  • Invasive Mechanical Ventilation

  • Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support (ECMO)

  • High Frequency Oscillator Ventilation (HFOV)

  • Insertion, Management and / or Monitoring of Invasive Lines, CVP/ART/LA / PA/RA

  • Emergency Chest Re-Opening, and management of patient with open sternum

  • Emergency Bedside Atrial Septostomy

  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

  • Peritoneal Dialysis

  • Insertion and Removal of Chest Tubes

  • Administration of Inotropes

  • Defibrillation / Cardioversion

  • Bronchoscopy

  • Total Parental Nutrition

  • Temporary Pacing

  • Pericardiocentesis

  • Newly-formed Tracheotomy with Ventilation

  • Lumbar Puncture
