Health Information Management Department (KAMC-WR)
Health Information Management Department (HIM) reports under the Operations Division with direct reporting to the Deputy Executive Director-Allied Health. Health Information Management provides a process of ensuring safeguard, maintaining the privacy, confidentiality and security, management of all patients' clinical records within King Abdulaziz Medical City, Western Region.
The Mission of Health Information Management-Western Region is to obtain, manage and utilize patient information in an effort to enhance and improve individual and organizational performance in patient care, administration, management and support processes.
Department Capacity
The department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The department is serving daily more than 150 physicians. Training more than 25 Health Information & Informatics and Hospital Administration university students yearly. The department attains daily more than 80 patients' requests. Also, Health Information Management has daily visitors of more than 15-20 researchers (physicians, medical students, and nurses).
Health Information Management Department inspects monthly more than 2800 inpatient clinical records and ensure that the clinical documentation is complete by following up with MRPs, residents, staff physicians, etc. Also, the department transcribes more than 1000 reports of physicians' dictations monthly, and code and abstract more than 2000 inpatient records using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th Revision, Australian Modification. Also, the department scans more than 36000 pages monthly.
Scope of Services
Health Information Management (HIM) is committed to providing the highest quality of service to our patients, physicians, staff and other healthcare information users by ensuring accurate, dependable and secure collection, maintenance, and appropriate dissemination of information.
Health Information Management also provides needed information by researchers, including but not limited to analysis, research for Summer School (RSS), quality and safety measurement, public health, payment, provider certification or accreditation, and other research activities approved by IRB.
HIM Department principal functions consists of different sections – these includes File Management, Research & Study, Scanning, Record Analysis, Chart Completion, Statistics, Clinical Coding, and Medical Transcription.
HIM also provides university students training program in collaboration with the Training and Development Department.
