Surgical Intensive Care Unit​ 

SICU is a nine-bed specialized Surgical ICU catering to all surgical patients requiring high-level care post-operatively, excluding Cardio-Thoracic patients. The unit is a high-paced, high turnover unit with a varying level of acuity. 

Care is rendered in a teamwork approach with Intensivists and Surgeons contributing to the successful management of the post-operative ICU patients. SICU is the Code Blue unit for the surgical tower sector of KAMC and supplies medical and Nursing experts to this team.​


Patient Population: Adult mixed gender.



Hours of Operation: 24 hours / 7 days a week



No of Beds: 9 Beds



Occupancy Rate: 100%



Staff Categories

  • Registered Nurse.
  • Patient Care Technician.




Primary Diagnosis

  • Elective Surgery.

  • Emergency Surgery.

  • Trauma.

  • Post-Surgery complicated with Sepsis, Respiratory Failure, Acute Renal Failure.






Primary Procedures

  • Airway management including ventilator support.

  • Percutaneous Tracheostomy.

  • Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).

  • Radiological Diagnostic Testing.

  • Vasopressor and Inotropic administration.

  • Enteral and Parenteral Feeding.

  • Invasive Monitoring.
