The Surgery Department is serving under the umbrella of National Guard Health Affairs for the employees (Military and civilians), military dependents, Business Center patient and eligibility patients providing them best possible care to patients who require surgical services in the areas of surgical with state of the art educational programs in all areas of clinical surgery and in the biologic basis of surgical illness.
The department seeks to provide the highest possible standard of patient care in all sub-subspecialties under Surgery.
Hours of Operation
The hospital is open 24/7 and the Surgery Department is providing non-stop service. The regular working hour is from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm. Surgery service is extended through on-calls where the surgical team will be available at anytime needed.
Working Hours (Units, Clinics)
There are two clinic sessions daily, 08:00 am to 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm to 05:00 pm.
Divisions
General Surgery
Our General Surgery sub-specialty provides quality evidence based patient surgical care prior to, during and after surgery by a highly trained surgical team. The general surgical department is staffed 24/7 to cover emergency or trauma cases.
We have 7 clinics at IABFH and the elective surgical cases covers all aspects of General surgery.
ENT
We have 3 clinics at IAFH: 1 Pre-operative and 2 General ENT clinics and Assistant Consultants are doing 2 clinic sessions per week as PHC. ENT clinic started with equipped examination unit with Microscope and later on we modified it with Endoscopic tower with camera, different angles telescopes and pediatric and adult fibroptic nasopharynscope, which make us capable of doing alike endoscopic diagnostic procedures in the clinic. It is also equipped with Fiber optic nasopharynoscope machine.
The OR activities as to the assigned day and conducting common elective surgeries such as Adenotonsillectomies, septoplasty fess and ear surgeries.
Ophthalmology
Ophthalmology clinic equipped by slit lamp unit with project chart, 90 D/ 78 D fundoscopy, gonioscopy, optical coherence tomography (OCT), biometry (A-B scan ultrasound), autorefractometer, lensmeter, phoropter, contact tonometer, non-contact tonometer, indirect ophthalmoscope, corneal topography, Automatic keratometer/pachymeter, visual field, Argon LASER, YAG LASER, fundus camera with filter for fluorescein angiography.
OR schedule on the assigned specific day and conducting common elective surgeries such as phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation, intravitreal injection of Anti-VGEF (Lucentis, Eylea) and steroid implant (Ozurdex), other ophthalmic surgery such as probing with/without intubation, pterygium excision with/without autograft or Mitomycin-C application, chalazion incision/excision, and other minor eyelid surgeries.
Orthopedics
Orthopedics is dealing with surgical and non-surgical treatment of all adult and pediatric trauma conditions including spinal and pelvic injuries.
The elective surgical and non-surgical treatment includes the following: Arthroplasty and joint replacement, sports pathology, shoulder pathology, spine, pediatric orthopedic, foot and ankle conditions and diagnosis and assessment of tumours pathology and metabolic disorders.
Urology
We give much importance towards patient’s education regarding their diseases and future prevention. The sub-specialty will also provide guidelines to the General Physicians to detect the Urological diseases at early stage and their quick referral to Urology. We have already set up ESWL, Male erectile dysfunction clinic, Flow rate and Urodynamics clinic for the patients suffering from bladder outflow symptoms and also streamlined the diagnostic pathway for the stone disease patients and haematuria patients.
Neurosurgery
The neurosurgery services covering the general neurosurgical urgent and elective service including cranial and spinal trauma, pediatric head injuries, hydrocephalus and spinal dysraphism. In addition, we are covering follow up spinal pathologies including degenerative spine disease, spinal trauma, spinal infection and spinal tumors.
Pediatric Surgery
Pediatric Surgery services covers wide range of neonatal and general pediatric in addition to some pediatric urology cases, H&N cases, abdominal /umbilical defect, gastro intestinal and Urogenital. The services is conducting twice a week OPD clinic and 4 sessions OR per week. In addition is 24/7 on-call for emergency cases.
