Overview of Training Levels

Each year within the 2-year training period is divided into two: SO% Inpatient-clinical services and SO% Outpatient-clinical responsibilities.

  1. The first year of fellowship is devoted predominantly to clinical training in Pediatric Endocrinology. Fellows have to spend 12 months simultaneously participating in Endocrine and Diabetes Training which involves a combination of Clinics, Inpatient Endocrine and Diabetes Activities. The Trainees are also expected to undergo laboratory and radiology rotations.

  2. The second year of the program is devoted to outside hospital rotations in Pediatric Endocrinology and Adult Endocrinology, enhanced with research under the mentorship of a faculty member. Major rotations include trainings in Laboratory (hormonal-chemistry, molecular and cytogeneticL Radiology, and Adult Endocrinology. The fellow will be given 6 months to do Pediatric Endocrinology rotations in other accredited centers. An examination is required for promotion to the next level but also has to pass the final examination (written and clinical) by the end of two years.

  3. The 3rd year is optional for those who are interested in basic and clinical research.

Clinical Duties:

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology is responsible for a diverse c clinical spectrum of endocrine and diabetic patient/s.

  1. The outpatient clinics are held every day, in addition to a Diabetes Educator Clinic which is held daily.

  2. Of the seven (7) Endocrine Clinics per week, there is a diversity of patient material including short stature, hypopituitarism, growth disorder thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders, disorders of sexual differentiation, disorders of calcium metabolism, hypoglycemia and all types of diabetes mellitus.
