King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC) aims to be the premiere research facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Part of achieving this goal is offering effective courses that help all researchers, both current and potential, when planning and conducting their clinical trials.
KAIMRC is offering a free three-day course on "Clinical Trial Design & Statistics Principles" to be conducted by Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally (MD, PhD), who is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, CPPHI, KSAU-HS; the Head of the Research Unit, CPPHI, KSAU-HS; and the Head of the Medical Questionnaire Research Unit, KAIMRC.
Clinical Trial Design & Statistics Principles Course will be held on the 27_29 March 2016 from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm at KAIMRC Auditorium New Building (Ground Floor).
CME Hours:
This course is accredited with CME Hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS).
The course provides an understanding of the different types of clinical trials, and looks at each of the required components of an effective clinical trial design. These include objectives, design, and methods to minimize bias and sample size. The second part of the course looks at the statistical aspects of clinical trials and includes an understanding of p-values, significance, types of error as well as introducing the various summary and descriptive values such as odds ratios, Kaplan- Meier and relative risks. The final part of the course details medical device trials and examines the difference in design, conduct, and reporting of such trials.
This Course is suitable for anyone involved in the design or conduction of clinical trials or observational studies.
Additional course objectives are to provide an understanding of:
The different types of clinical trials
The structure for the design of a clinical trial
Different designs of trials
Methods to minimize bias
Sample size
Statistical aspects of the design
