Pediatric Hematology- Oncology Acheivements and Awards

  • Implementation of “Disease Specific Sub-specialization Programs in Oncology”


    • Leukemia/Lymphoma program

    • Neuro-oncology program

    • Solid tumors program
  • Adaptation of evidence based clinical practice guidelines (CPG) aiming to standardize treatment modalities and to ensure state of the art management.
  • Insured accessibility of the CPG to all health care providers through the Departmental web page on the intranet.
  • Uploaded most of the chemotherapy protocols (pre-printed orders and order sets) on the electronic medical record system (Best Care), to ensure safety and efficiency of the daily practice.
  • Conducting weekly Tumor Boards (Multidisciplinary Group Meeting to review and discuss the Management of various Pediatric Oncology patients).
  • Collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in conducting regular tumor boards to discuss with their experts complex oncology cases.
  • Performing all procedures (IT chemo and BMA) under Monitored Anesthesia Care in a designated area in the outpatient in order to avoid admitting patients.
  • Sustaining the excellent results of managing all Oncology and Hematopoietic Stem Cell transplant (HSCT) patients with Fever and Suspected Neutropenia when they come to ER (Door to antibiotic time of less than 60 minutes).
  • Expansion of the Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) Program. It has expanded in size, patient numbers and type of transplants.
  • Collaboration with International Registries for match unrelated SCT.
  • CIBMTR Registration (sharing basic data with International Blood& Marrow Transplant Registry as a main step in preparation for applying for FACT/JACIE accreditation of the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Program in 2019-2020).
  • Establishment of “Help Line” service for the patients to keep them in direct communication with medical and allied services.
  • Collaboration with Home health care to provide wide range of services for patients
  • Establishment of “Survivorship Program”
  • Enrolling patients on SANAD academic program in collaboration with ministry of education, so the children will not miss days of schooling.
  • Accreditation of our HSCT program and radiation therapy for fellowship training by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS)
  • Expansion of the Fellowship Program
  • Approval of 6 Scholarship positions
