Medical Care Nursing Services

King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh commenced its operations in May 1983. Since then, it has continued expanding, providing services for a rapidly growing patient population in all its catchment areas. The specialty of medical nursing expands in response to ongoing changes in the healthcare environment.

The dynamic nature of the health care environment and the growing body of knowledge in nursing practice highlight the need to describe and interpret the practice of the medical nurse. Medical nurses recognize that the client is the fundamental and central focus in delivering nursing services.

Scope of Service

The scope of medical nursing practice is intricately linked with the standards of medical nursing practice. The roles of medical nurses are structurally defined to ensure that the promotion of high standards of nursing practice, implementation of practice guidelines, a commitment to continuing education, and scholarly activity are achieved to enhance patient care.

Medical care nursing practice encompasses diagnosing, managing, and treating individuals with actual or potential health problems. Medical care nursing aims to assist the individual or group in promoting, restoring, or maintaining optimal health.

The medical nurse is skilled in assessing, implementing, evaluating, and reviewing actual or potential alterations in functional ability and lifestyle. It requires specialized knowledge and clinical skills to manage actual or potential health problems that affect individuals, their significant others, and the community.

The nursing process is the framework for nursing practice. In essence, the medical nurse formulates nursing diagnoses from pertinent assessment data. The interventions are implemented, and the clients’ and patients’ responses are re-assessed and re-evaluated.
Medical care nursing consists of assessing and managing a wide array of specialties such as endocrinology, nephrology, acute respiratory conditions, covid-19 and MERS-CoV, pulmonology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, stroke, neurology, rehabilitation, and geriatric. This service is provided for adult and geriatric patients of both genders, optimizing a collaborative approach from the multidisciplinary expert team.
