Ward 29-ACSHDU is designed to manage and deliver care to patients both Pre and Post Cardiac Surgery.


Patient Population: Adult mixed gender

Hours of Operation: 24/7

No of Beds: 11

Occupancy Rate: 98%

Staff Categories: Nurse Manager, Clinical Resource Nurse, Nurse Coordinator, Staff Nurse I & II, Patient Care Technician

Primary Diagnosis:

Post Cardiac Surgery:

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

  • Valve Surgery ( Valvuloplasty, Repair or Replacement )

  • Aortic Aneurysm / Dissection

  • Adult Congenital / Heart Disease

  • Sternal Re-Wire / Debridement

  • Maze Procedure

  • Pulmonary Embolectomy

  • Cardiac Surgery Intervention for Trauma or Injury

  • Arrhythmias as Complications Post–Operatively

  • Pleural and Pericardial Effusions

  • Chronic Airway Management in patients post cardiac surgerydel of Care

Pre Cardiac Surgery:

  • Patient management pre-operatively Cardiac Surgery for Moderate to high risk, non-ventilated patients.

  • Other Adult Cardiology diagnosis and management

Primary procedures:

  • 24-Hour Monitoring and Telemetry

  • Non-Invasive Ventilation Nasal Mask, Full Face, BIPAP / CPAP

  • Chronic Airway Management (Tracheostomy)

  • Venous, Arterial, PICC, CVP / ART Line Management

  • 12-Lead ECG (Performance and basic interpretation)

  • Administration of vasoactive infusions, thrombolytics Low-medium dose inotropes

  • Pleural Aspiration and Thoracentesis (Assist)

  • Invasive Hemodynamics monitoring (CVP / ART Line)

  • Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) and Heart Transplant

  • Emergency Transvenous Pacing, Temporary Cardiac Pacing and Pacing Wires Management

  • Cardioversion (Elective and Emergency-assist)

  • Chest Tubes (Insertion / Removal / Management)

  • Moderate Sedation

  • Hemodialysis (Nursing Care provided by HD staff)
